What is a Matterport Digital Twin?

A Matterport digital twin is a dimensionally accurate 3D model of a real-world space. It is captured using a specialized camera that records both visual (photographic) and depth (infrared) data. This combination allows viewers to not only see the space but to move through it virtually, understand its layout from a "dollhouse" perspective, and take accurate measurements.

A Data-Rich Digital Asset

The scanning process builds a versatile digital asset with several functions:

  • Immersive Navigation: 'Walk through' the space for a clear sense of its layout.
  • Accurate Measurements: Take measurements of objects or distances within the model.
  • Annotations (Mattertags): Embed text, links, or videos to highlight specific features.
  • Schematic Floor Plans: Generate 2D floor plans from the 3D data.
  • Point Cloud Data: Export 3D data (e.g., E57 files) for use in AEC and design software.
